MEC Mhlahlo to hand over foster homes to orphans in Somerset
East

MEC for Housing, Safety and Liaison Thobile Mhlahlo will hand over three
foster care homes to 21 homeless orphans and 200 houses in Somerset East on
Friday, 20 February 2009.

The foster care homes will accommodate 21 orphans from Somerset East. A
foster care parent has been provided for the orphans by the Department of
Social Development.

This is part of an ongoing housing delivery outreach where the MEC goes
throughout the province to hand over houses to beneficiaries. The outreach
started this year in Humansdorp where 300 houses were delivered to disabled,
youth and unemployed people.

Today, he handed over 150 youth built housing project in Bathurst, Port
Alfred. The Bathurst project afforded training and employment opportunities for
100 young people. The youth were trained on brick laying, plumbing and project
management amongst other things and they were enrolled on the project as
subcontractors.

The handover of foster homes will be held at Old Location in Somerset. The
MEC will also hold a safety Imbizo in the afternoon aimed at encouraging
community participation to fight crime by joining community policing
forums.
