Association of Consulting Engineers' (SAACE) presidential visit to the
Border-Kei region

Eastern Cape MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and Transport, Mr Thobile
Mhlahlo, will be the keynote speaker at the South African Association of
Consulting Engineers (SAACE) Presidential visit to the Border-Kei Region. The
session will be held at the Ernst's Chalet Suisse, which is situated along the
Esplanade, in East London on Tuesday, 19 June 2007 at 18h00.
It will be attended by the President of the Association, Mr Cecil Rose and
the CEO, Mr Graham Pirie.
MEC Mhlahlo is expected to present the provincial government perspective on
infrastructure development and the role that the private sector, especially the
engineering industry, could play in order to realise the objectives of the
Provincial Growth and Development Plan (PGDP), Accelerated and Shared Growth
Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA) and Joint Initiative on Priority Skills
Acquisition (Jipsa).
He will further brief the SAACE about the province's tolling strategy, which
encompasses Public Private Partnership arrangement.
With the strategic importance of skills in the fields of science,
engineering and technology, MEC Mhlahlo is expected to address the association
about the importance of its contribution in the Department of Roads and
Transport's Human Resource Development Medium to Long-Term Plan, which seeks to
deal with the challenge of skills shortage in these fields.
