MEC Mhlahlo to address mass funeral at Mbizana and Port
Elizabeth

Eastern Cape MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and Transport, Thobile Mhlahlo,
will address mass funerals at Mbizana and Port Elizabeth.

At 9h00, MEC Mhlahlo will address the mass funeral of 15 people, who died in
a bakkie accident last week, at Mpeni Village in Mbizana.

In this funeral, MEC Mhlahlo is expected to announce the Department of Roads
and Transport interventions to improve public transport system and road
infrastructure in the Mbizana Municipality and the entire former Transkei
region.

These include:

* Public Transport Improvement Strategy with a particular focus on the
revitalisation of the bus passenger service
* R20 million Road Infrastructure Improvement Plan for the Mbizana
Municipality
* Road Traffic Safety Intervention Programme with a particular focus on the
introduction of rangers, building of a Vehicle Testing Station worth R8 million
and road safety awareness.

After that, MEC Mhlahlo will fly to Port Elizabeth to attend the funeral of
three of the six school children, who died in a taxi accident on Monday this
week.
