Mhlahlo to address the Consultative Conference on the Integration of Search and
Rescue Services in the Southern Africa Region

On Monday, 22 October 2007, Eastern Cape MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and
Transport, Mr Thobile Mhlahlo will address the Consultative Conference on the
Integration of Search and Rescue Services in the Southern Africa Region to be
held at the Protea Marine Hotel in Port Elizabeth from 22 to 26 October 2007.
The conference is expected to start at 09h30 and will be addressed by various
international speakers, including experts on disaster management, aeronautical
search and rescue incidents, maritime search and rescue strategies, etc.
MEC Mhlahlo is expected to take this opportunity to outline the Eastern Cape
plans to promote safety and security of the provincial ports. As a member of
the National Port Security Audit Team, the Eastern Cape will start auditing the
safety and security aspects of our provincial ports as from February 2008. The
Port of East London has been identified as a starting point.
MEC Mhlahlo is further expected to announce the plans for the revitalisation
of the Port St Johns River Port, which forms part of the Provincial Freight
Logistics Plan that is currently being completed.
