Presidential Trade Union Working Group

President Thabo Mbeki will tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 October, chair the
Presidential Trade Union Working Group meeting at the Union Buildings,
Pretoria, at 12h00 to 14h00.

This meeting follows the two-day Trade Union Working Group that took place
on 30 to 31 March 2007 at Tuynhuys. The main issues discussed at the last
meeting were challenges and opportunities facing workers and unions,
globalisation and changing methods of work organisation, globalisation and its
impact on the labour market and union movement, the role of labour in managing
the impact of globalisation as well as the role of the state in dealing with
challenges of globalisation.

Tomorrow's meeting is expected to be a follow-up on the decisions of the
special Trade Union Working Group meeting and employment targeting monetary
policy, which will be presented by Federation of Trade Unions in South Africa
(Fedusa).

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Ministers of Trade and Industry,
Public Enterprises, Labour, Public Works and Safety and Security will be part
of the government leadership attending the meeting. The labour sector will be
represented by the President and the General Secretary of Congress of South
African Trade Unions (Cosatu) Willy Madisha and Zwelinzima Vavi, President and
General Secretary of Fedusa Mary Malete and Dennis George and the President of
National Council of Trade Unions (Nactu) Joseph Maqhekeni and other members of
the trade unions.
