T Mbeki on death of former State President M Viljoen

Earlier this evening, we received the news of the passing away of former
State President, Marais Viljoen, in the City of Tshwane.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of South Africa, we
would like to express our deepest condolences to his only daughter Elna,
grandson Viljoen and his friends.

Former President Viljoen served as State President from June 1979 to
September 1984.

May his soul rest in peace.
