President Mbeki to attend New Partnership for Africa's
Development (NEPAD) Brainstorming Summit

Pretoria: South African President Thabo Mbeki will today Tuesday, 20 March
2007, depart for Algiers, Algeria where they will attend a NEPAD Brainstorming
Summit on Wednesday 21 March 2007.

President Mbeki will participate in this Summit within the context of South
Africa's priority to consolidate the African agenda through, among others,
promoting the implementation of NEPAD.

Discussions at the Summit shall focus on two items, namely a brainstorming
session on NEPAD and the integration of NEPAD into the structures and processes
of the African Union (AU).

The brainstorming process shall be undertaken within the context of
evaluating the achievements, weaknesses and the way forward. The Summit will
review the discussions already undertaken on integration and propose concrete
recommendations that will be considered at the AU Summit in July 2007.

President Mbeki is expected to return to South Africa on Thursday, 22 March
2007.
