The Director General of Trade and Industry, Tshediso Matona has announced
that Lionel October, Deputy Director General (DDG) Enterprise and Industry
Development Division (EIDD) at the Department of Trade and industry (dti), has
been assigned to perform the duties of a counsellor for economic affairs as an
international representative based in Brussels.
October will be leaving the department in September. During his tenure as
DDG for EIDD, he was instrumental in spearheading some of the dti's key
industrial and enterprise development initiatives such as the Broad-based Black
Economic Empowerment, enterprise development and industrial policy.
His new job would entail interacting with the European Union, which has been
South Africa's largest trading partner. He would also be responsible for
investment promotion.
Hlonela Lupuwana, who has been Chief Operations Officer (COO) of EIDD since
2003, will act as DDG until further notice. October can be contacted on 082 410
