The Western Cape Provincial Government will host the Freedom Day
celebrations at the Robinvale Sports field in Atlantis on Friday, 27 April
2007. Large crowds expected to fill the stadium will be addressed by the
Minister of Finance Trevor Manuel and Premier Rasool under theme 'Renewing our
pledge, national participation to building a better life for all.'
The profile of this event will be further enhanced by the presence of
various national ministers, provincial cabinet, including the Minister of
Agriculture, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Deputy Minister of Arts and
Culture.
The award-winning Cape Town based musical group, Freshly Ground and a host
of local artists will keep the large crowd dancing from midday and between
speeches in a traditional freedom day celebratory mood.
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport has also organised another
event to be held at Paarl Town Hall on Thursday. The Paarl event will focus on
forced removals and the conditions of farm workers. Grade 10 learners and the
farming community will participate in the celebrations. Paarl was targeted to
unmask untold stories about forced removals there.
The audience will be addressed by MECs Jacobs and Cobus Dowry.
