Stats South Africa to launch Community Survey, 22 Jan

Launch of Community Survey

18 January 2007

In 1996, Statistics South Africa conducted the first ever democratic census
that covered all the people of South Africa. It was only after the census of
1996 that the demographic, social and economic data of South Africa became
available and Statistics South Africa has since conducted another census in
2001. However, the cycle of census has been changed from five to ten years;
accordingly the next census will be taken in 2011. In the intervening period,
Statistics South Africa will undertake the largest ever survey, Community
Survey. This will be the first ever survey to generate data and profiles at the
lowest level of governance, local government.

In the light of the foregoing, the Statistician-General, Pali Lehohla
cordially invites you to attend press briefing as well as the official launch
of the Community Survey. The Minister of Finance will deliver the keynote
address.
