Future Olympic champs in action

South Africa is traditionally a winner at international swimming. We have
produced many top swimmers in the recent past, and now the country is on a
drive to identify the next generation of swimmers that will be winners at the
2012 Olympic Games in London. The Aquatics championships that will be held at
Dellville swimming pool in Germiston and Kings Park swimming pool in Durban
this weekend are some of this year’s primary events where promising talent will
be participating.

Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), the national department of sport,
in its role at providing South African youth with opportunities to participate
in sport, is supporting the national school championships. The Aquatic
championships are the place where future South African swimming stars will be
born and nurtured be there and see them in action and become familiar with
their names.

follows:

Category: Primary Schools
Place: Dellville swimming pool in Germiston
Date: 6 to 7 March 2009

Secondary Schools
Place: Kings Park swimming pool in Durban
Date: 6 to 7 March 2009

The opening ceremony for the Germiston championships ceremony will be
addressed by Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Mr Gert
Oosthuizen at 16h30 on 6 March 2009. These national championships are held on
behalf of SRSA through intergovernmental relations and partnerships with
departments such as education. About 2 000 participants representing all
provinces are expected to take part in these national championships.
