South African Police Service on arrest of former Telkom senior
official

35 year old women who defrauded Telkom is arrested

18 July 2007

A former Telkom Senior Official Beauty Sonny Ramaisela(35) of Moreletta Park
in Pretoria was arrested on 17 July 2007 by members of the Commercial Branch
(Head Office), for allegedly defrauding Telkom of more than R400 000,00 during
2004/05.

The accused allegedly opened bank accounts using false particulars and also
caused Telkom to deposit huge amounts of money into those accounts. The accused
further allegedly made misrepresentations to the Telkom Credit Management
Division, causing them to believe that the payments in those fictitious
accounts were legitimate.

The clients to whom the payments were made were either fictitious or did not
actually receive the payment as arranged by the accused.

The accused made a brief appearance in the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court
yesterday and was released on R5 000 bail. The case was postponed to 5
September 2007. The SAPS would like to reiterate that corruption is viewed in a
very serious light and as a result the SAPS will stop at nothing in ensuring
that perpetrators are exposed and dealt with accordingly.
