South Africa to host Progressive Governance Summit, 11 – 12 Feb

Media Advisory on Progressive Governance Summit

30 January 2006

The 2006 Progressive Governance Summit takes place in South Africa on 11 and
12 February 2006. The event will take place at Didimala Game Lodge in
Hammanskraal. This will be the first time that the Summit takes place in the
developing world.

The Progressive Governance Summit brings together Heads of State and
Government dominated by Centre-Left parties across the world, which
collectively form the Progressive Governance Network. Formed in 1999, in the
context of the trend towards a unipolar world, the Network brings together
leaders from both developed and developing worlds.

The Summit will be preceded by a high level round table discussion on
Saturday, 11 February 2006, comprising the Heads of State/Government attending
the Summit and a group of progressive leaders currently in opposition as well
as a number of key international figures.

Media are invited to cover the summit. There will be a media briefing by
Heads of State and Government at the end of the summit on Sunday, 12 February
2006.

Media interested in covering the event are requested to submit their names
and ID/Passport numbers to: Matome Sebelebele on Matome@gcis.gov.za.

All media should ensure that their details are submitted by Monday, 6
February 2006, for accreditation purposes.
