Pietermaritzburg: The Premier will deliver his annual budget speech for the
department: Royal Household. Journalists attending this event are required to

Friday, 20 April 2007 commencing at 17h30 at the Durban City Hall: The
Premier will deliver the keynote address at the annual Premier's Service
Excellence Awards. Premier Ndebele is extremely passionate about taking
government services to the people as well as affording the people an
opportunity to be consulted on the manner in which these services are
delivered. The citizens' perception of government is dependent on the manner in
which services are rendered by public servants within government
departments.
KwaZulu-Natal can be considered as a forerunner in terms of accelerating the
levels of government service delivery. Heightened levels of service delivery
amongst provincial departments are essential to ensure that citizens are
receiving optimal levels of delivery from government. To this end, the KZN
provincial government developed the KZN Citizen's Charter, which was aligned
with the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy, in order to further
enhance the service delivery mechanisms within the province.
The Office of the Premier in KwaZulu-Natal launched the Citizen's Charter
over 18 months ago. In accordance with the principles and ideals contained in
the Citizen's Charter, the annual Premier's Service Excellence Awards will be
hosted on Friday, 20 April 2007. The awards programme seeks to acknowledge and
honour those officials who go beyond the call of duty in the execution of their
deliverables, thereby instilling a sense of pride within them.
The Citizen's Charter has provided a platform to the different provincial
departments to outline their service delivery improvement plans wherein it is
essential to implement the principles of Batho Pele within the operations that
are undertaken by the relevant department. The Premier's Service Excellence
Awards is hosted by the Office of the Premier in partnership with
PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Standard Bank and City Press.
Journalists attending this event are required to confirm their attendance by
no later than 16h00 on Wednesday, 18 April 2007.
