The KwaZulu-Natal government welcomes the end to the protracted industrial
strike action of the public service sector. We are happy to have our educators,
lecturers and officials back in the workplace to help us build a better future
for all our learners.
The second school term has been severely disrupted by the industrial strike
action and the majority of our learners have not received any schooling for as
many as 20 days. The time has now come for us to restore the culture of
learning and teaching at our schools and colleges.
We are pleased that teacher unions in the interest of all our learners have
expressed their willingness to teach during our mass winter school which will
run at our schools from Monday, 9 to Friday, 13 July 2007. This winter school
will most certainly help us to recover some of the teaching time lost during
the strike.
We also thank all our parents and school governing bodies for their patience
and understanding during the strike and appeal to them to help us to make our
winter school a success. Let us all work together in the interest of our
children.
Masisukume Sakhe!
