(HOD) Dr Busi Nyembezi
19 September 2007
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele has announced the appointment of Dr
Yoliswa Mbele as the Acting Provincial Health Department Head. This follows the
institution of an investigation into a number of allegations levelled against
Dr Busi Nyembezi who has been asked to take a two-week voluntary leave while
the matter was being finalised. Premier Ndebele told a media briefing this
morning that a team of consultants were expected to submit to him a final
report into the investigation by last night, but the report was not on his desk
by this morning.
Premier Ndebele is leaving the country today leading a high-profile
government delegation to Korea. The delegation is expected to seek partnerships
with potential Korean investors in the areas of Information Technology (IT),
leather works and timber processing.
Ndebele re-iterated government's position on loitering school kids, saying
the campaign to round them up will be launched soon. He said school kids who
loitered during school time were potential burden to both government and
society as activities they engaged in during their loitering exposed scholars
to social ills such as unplanned pregnancies, drug abuse and impacted
negatively on government's effort towards skills development.
