Philani âAmenâ Mkhanyawo, 7 Mar
5 March 2009
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele will deliver an address at the
funeral service of the late Philani âAmenâ Mkhanyawo who was killed on 26
February 2009.
Details of the funeral are as follows:
Date: 7 March 2009
Venue: Menzi High School Sports Ground, Umlazi
Time: 09h00
Mr Mkhanyawo, a father of three children who was a musician with the Ithemba
Gospel Choir, was shot several times at his home in N-Section Umlazi. Mr
Mkhanyawo was a bass singer in the group and was one of the founding members.
He also worked part-time for Mondi Paper.
Premier Ndebele, and his wife Zama, assisted the Ithemba group in their
musical career. The group, against many odds, had risen to great heights and
was very thankful to the Ndebele family.
Premier Ndebele said: âThe senseless death of this gifted and talented man
at the prime of his life is callous and unnecessary. âAmenâ, as he was fondly
known, was ambitious and a go getter. Why this savage attack on an innocent man
is bewildering.â
