Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi today confirmed
that President Thabo Mbeki has accepted the resignation of Professor
Thandabantu Nhlapho as chairperson of the Commission on Traditional Leadership
Disputes and Claims and that of two other commissioners, professors Jan Bekker
and Jeff Peires.
Minister Mufamadi added that although this was regrettable, the resignation
of the three commissioners did not hinder the remaining nine commissioners from
performing their duties in terms of the relevant enabling legislation as a
matter of fact, the Minister is assured that the commission will soon release
its report as contemplated in Section 28 (7) of the Traditional Leadership and
Governance Framework Amendment Act of 2003.
