South Africa to reinforce Mozambique's response to Cyclone

The Minister for Provincial and Local Government, Mr Sydney Mufamadi,
responsible for disaster management, will today on Friday, 23 February 2007,
lead a high-level delegation to Mozambique to hold a joint meeting with their
counterparts to determine the nature and support required by the government of
Mozambique. This comes in the aftermath of tropical cyclone Favio which struck
parts of Southern Mozambique on Thursday, 22 February 2007.

Mufamadi will be accompanied by Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry Ms
Lindiwe Hendricks, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aziz Pahad. The
delegation will also visit the affect areas. The outcomes of the meeting and
inspection of these areas may necessitate the deployment of relief and
emergency resources to Mozambique. The relevant sector departments have already
started preparing relief operation plans.

"The Mozambique government has proactively implemented numerous contingency
plans and mobilised significant resources to pre-empt and deal with the direct
effect of the disaster. Our intension is to further assist the people of
Mozambique," said Mufamadi.
