5 April 2007
"The urgency of air quality problems and its impact on the health of
communities in relation to these hot spots necessitates drastic action and
focused attention by government and the private sector."
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Rejoice
Mabudafhasi will launch six air quality monitoring stations in the Vaal
Triangle, the second air pollution hot spot (priority area) in the country.
Date: 11 April 2007
Time: 09h00
Venue: Ikeketseng Secondary School, Sasolburg
The air quality stations are aimed at providing scientific air quality data
in the Vaal Airshed which will be used as a basis against which informed air
quality management decisions are taken in terms of priority areas (hot
spots).
The launch of the air quality monitoring stations reaffirms the department's
commitment to improved air quality in the Vaal Triangle. The stations are
located in six schools in the area and thus provide an opportune gesture to
instil environmental knowledge and interest amongst the youth.
