MEC Mahlangu preside over the women councillors' mentorship
programme certificate awards ceremony

\Gauteng Local Government MEC Qedani Dorothy Mahlangu will on Friday (27
March 2009) hand over certificates of excellence to women councillors who have
completed the Women Councillors' Mentorship Programme.

The mentorship training programme was launched in 2007 by MEC Mahlangu and
the former Reserve Bank deputy governor Gill Marcus with the training of women
councillors in the province.

It included formal training with credited institutions, workshops, breakfast
meetings and mentoring of councillors by leading business women and women
politicians. The main objective of the programme was to empower women to equip
them with necessary skills needed for the acceleration of serve delivery in the
province.

To date, approximately 200 women councillors including chief whips and
speakers have undergone the training.
