Three day activities intended for the launch of the Women's Justice and
Empowerment Initiative (WJEI) to be held in Cape Town. Activities will include
visits to the Thuthuzela Care Centres (one-stop care facilities for victims of
rape and/or gender based violence).
Day 1: 1 April 2009
Interdepartmental Management Team (IDMT) and South African Broadcasting
Co-operation (SABC) round table
Objectives
* To share information and strategies on preventing, supporting and
responding to gender injustices with a view to strengthen partnerships between
the Sexual Offences and Community Affairs (SOCA) unit of the National
Prosecuting Authority and SABC.
* To identify programmatic synergies using the three pillars (prevention,
support and response) mapping out the areas of collaboration, activities, roles
and responsibilities.
* To tease out mutual beneficiary initiatives using the 365 Days National
Action Plan in addressing gender injustices.
Expected outcomes
* A process mapping out the development of an action plan in line with the
365 days National Action Plan on collaboration, activities, roles and
responsibilities using all 13 radio stations, community radio stations,
television, print and audio visual media.
* Mutual beneficiary initiatives teased out using the 365 Days National Action
Plan in addressing gender injustices.
* Partnerships between SABC and SOCA strengthened.

of South Africa and the United States of America in fighting gender based
violence.
* To share lessons learnt and success stories within the initiative.
* To strengthen the partnerships between different stakeholders (government â
local, provincial and national, civil society, business) and WJEI.

South Africa and the United States of America;
