The Presidency in partnership with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
South Africa has completed a study on "Situational Analysis of Children in
South Africa". The study covered the gains made by government on child
survival, protection and development over the years. Significant gains have
been recorded on Child Poverty, Child Survival and Health, Early Childhood
Development, Education, Care and Protection.
The report also identified the cross-cutting challenges on delivery on
Constitutional, African Convention on the Rights and Welfare of the Child as
well as UN Convention on the Rights of the Child mandates.
These challenges include the allocation of adequate and equitable resources,
collaboration between government departments, role of civil society, community
participation as well as the research on issues affecting children.
Children from both urban and rural areas of all provinces were afforded
opportunity to give inputs into the report. The report will be launched by the
Minister in the Presidency, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang.
