Presidency to launch Development Indicators publication, 21 Jun

Launch of Development Indicators publication

19 June 2007

Media are invited to the media launch of the Development Indicators
publication to be addressed by Joel Netshitenzhe, Head of the Policy and
Co-ordination Advisory Services in The Presidency, at the Union Buildings,
Thursday, 21 June, at 15h00.

This publication summarises the data on trends mainly for the period leading
up to the middle of this government's term, two-and-half years after the April
2004 elections. The information has been clustered into ten broad themes:
economic growth and transformation, employment, poverty and inequality,
household and community assets, health, education, social cohesion, safety and
security, international affairs and good governance.

Cabinet has approved a set of key development indicators to provide
evidence-based pointers to the evolution of our society. Based in part on Ten
Year Review's human development indicators, they are markers that help define
the milestones in the journey of social change.

The launch will take the form of a media briefing, commencing with a formal
presentation to be followed by a Q&A session that allows for further
engagement by way of questions, comments and/or remarks.
