Police Service to host National Community Police Consultative Forum
(NCPCF) work session, 29 to 30 Jan

Media invitation

28 January 2009

The Division Visible Policing will host the National Community Police
Consultative Forum (NCPCF) work session on 29 January 2009 to 30 January 2009,
at Protea Hotel, Bloemfontein Central, Free State. The (NCPCF) consists of the
nine Chairpersons of the Provincial Community Police Boards, representatives of
South African Police Service (SAPS) management (national and provincial) and
the National Secretariat for Safety and Security. The Chairperson of the NCPCF
is Mr M Mphuthi.

This work-session of the NCPCF follows from the Minister for Safety and
Security's commitment to partnership as expressed during the Crime Summit of 1
and 2 December 2008. Community Police Fora, at every level, has a role to play
in partnerships to reduce crime and should also contribute to the establishment
of partnerships, so that communities are mobilised to work with the police,
making use of mechanisms like street committees.

The work session seeks to strengthen and maintain a sound partnership
between the community and the police thus promoting co-operation between SAPS
and the community with a view of fulfilling the needs of the community
regarding policing matters. As a national Forum this work-session will focus on
matters of national interest in regard to community policing and partnership
with the SAPS.

The media is invited to attend a media briefing on 30 January 2009 from
10h00 until 10h45.
