National Assembly endorses President's decision to remove
Advocate Pikoli as National Director of Public Prosecutions, Parliament

The National Assembly has endorsed the removal of Advocate Vusi Pikoli from
his position as National Director of Public Prosecutions.

President Kgalema Motlanthe communicated his decision to remove Advocate
Pikoli from this position in December 2008. Parliament established a Joint
Ad-hoc Committee to deliberate on President Motlanthe decision.

On Wednesday, 11 February, following hearings and deliberations since
January, the Committee finalised its report on the matter and recommended that
President Motlanthe's decision be endorsed.

On Thursday, members of Parliament's National Assembly voted 232 in favour
of and 60 against the Joint Ad-hoc Committee's recommendation. There were no
abstentions.

The Committee's report and recommendation will be considered by Parliament's
National Council of Provinces on Tuesday, 17 February.
