Merafong into Gauteng

Parliament will today hold public hearings on the Constitution 16th
Amendment Bill and the Cross Boundary Municipalities Laws Repeal and Related
Matters Amendment Bill.
The Constitution Sixteenth Amendment Bill aims to amend the Constitution, in
order to re-determine the geographical areas of the provinces of Gauteng and
North West. Thus it intends to give effect to the decision to re-incorporate
the Merafong City Local Municipality into the province of Gauteng.
The Cross Boundary Municipalities Laws Repeal and Related Matters Bill seeks
to amend the cross boundary Repeal Act so as to provide for the re-demarcation
of the boundaries of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda and West Rand District
Municipalities and to provide for the consequences of such re-demarcation.
The following organisations will make presentations on the bill:
* National Treasury
* Independent Electoral Commission
* South African Local Government Association
* Municipal Demarcation Board
* Chairperson of the Merafong Forum, Mr Isaac Langa.
