Ventersdorp

Seven people died and 61 others were seriously injured when the bus
overturned at Klerkskraal near Ventersdorp in the North West province this
afternoon. The Putco bus ferrying 68 passengers was travelling from Atamelang
to Johannesburg when it overturned 300 km away from the curve in a rainy
condition. Six passengers were certified dead on the scene while the other one
died at the nearby hospital. The male driver and other 61 passengers consisting
of men, women and young people sustained serious injuries and were taken to
Ventersdorp, Potchefstroom, Carltonville and Johannesburg hospitals
respectively.
Transport Roads and Community Safety MEC Phenye Vilakazi has passed his
condolences to the deceased families and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
Vilakazi and the Jaws traffic unit will from tomorrow review all bus operating
permits and check vehicles and drivers fitness in all the provincial roads.
