during the National Police Day
27 January 2009
North West province has a capable police force according to Transport, Roads
and Community Safety MEC Phenye Vilakazi. Vilakazi revealed this during the
National Police Day held today at Ikageng stadium in Potchefstroom to honour
members of the South African Police Service for their sterling performance in
the fight against crime.
âMembers of the SAPS have registered great successes in the fight against
serious and violent crimes during the festive season to date,â said Vilakazi
adding that many criminals have been brought to book, resulting in scores of
arrests, the seizure of illegal weapons and the fatal wounding of suspects who
tried to fight against law enforcement officers.
During the ceremony Vilakazi presented commemoration awards to members of
the police service who served in government for ten to thirty years. He has
also presented monetary awards to the tune of R10 000,00 to individual police
officers for their meaningfully contribution in serious crimes.
âThis yearâs National Police Day celebration, focused specifically on
promoting partnerships with the communities in fighting against crime,â said
Vilakazi.
The provincial Commissioner Leseja Bertha, members of community policing forums
and Ikageng residents attended the event.
