House robberies, torture and loss of belongings at the hands of the
perpetrators are rife in Rustenburg, according to North West Transport, Roads
and Community Safety MEC Phenye Vilakazi. He revealed this at a handover
ceremony of 13 high performance vehicles to members of SAPS flying squad and
highway patrols in Rustenburg today.
The vehicles, which include six VW GTI's and three Ford Focus makes are
fitted with specialised monitoring system, mobile communication technology and
automatic vehicle location, system will assist the police in busting crime.
The handover of additional vehicles, Vilakazi said, is a government's effort
meant to capacitate SAPS members to make them more effective in responding to
crime.
Commending the services of SAPS, Vilakazi said, government had by far built
the required capacity to stage peaceful and secure 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup
and 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament to be held in Rustenburg.
