The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development
Planning, Pierre Uys, will announce the results of an energy audit conducted on
selected public buildings in Cape Town on Thursday, 19 March 2009 at 12h00. The
presentation of results will be delivered at 4 Dorp Street, floor seven, main
board room. Energy audits were conducted in key public buildings with the view
of optimising energy efficiency.
The audit reports show an analysis of the electricity consumption per
building and present the key findings with recommendations for energy
efficiency interventions. It is the intention of the Department to lead by
example by promoting energy efficient technologies and construction methods.
This together with development of renewable energy and cleaner fuel programmes
reduces the province's carbon footprint.
These results will be presented in conjunction with other milestone
initiatives such as water efficiency and waste management programmes
spearheaded by the provincial government.
