MEC for Health Neliswa Nkonyeni invites all journalists to the official
launch of the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing in Pietermaritzburg tomorrow (24
July 2007).
KwaZulu-Natal Premier S'bu Ndebele is billed to attend the landmark event
that marks the amalgamation of the former Natal College of Nursing, Ngwelezana
and Edendale Nursing Colleges and their satellite campuses throughout the
province under one name a step that brings uniformity in the nursing
profession. Previously, each of the three colleges had its own curriculum and
was affiliated to a different university and therefore there was no uniformity
in the province.
The college has now been rationalised to become a single college that would
have a Uniform Curriculum, Nursing Education Policy's and a Common Examination
System. A single college enables monitoring, co-ordinating and controlling of
Nursing Education Standards in the province (KwaZulu-Natal) from a single
management perspective.
The college has 11 Campuses and 14 Sub-Campuses under its management in KZN.
The province is unique in the entire country for the way that Education and
Training of Nurses is managed.
