P Nkonyeni to convene African Traditional Medicine Conference, 29 to 30

5 000 Traditional Health Practitioners to converge in
eThekwini

The MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal will convene an African Traditional
Medicine Conference from the 29th to the 30th August 2007 at the Durban's Ocean
Conference Centre.

The theme of the conference is: 'Research & development of Traditional
Medicine in World Health Organization's (WHO) African Region.'

The conference will bring together traditional health practitioners and
other stakeholders like researchers, academics, and scientists to discuss the
disease challenges that face our country. It is also expected that the
conference will improve working relations between the providers of healthcare
(Department of Health) and the traditional practitioners.

Among the guests expected at the conference and the celebration are: iSilo
samabandla, King Zwelithini Zulu; the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr SJ Ndebele;
Mayor of eThekwini, Councillor Obed Mlaba; President of the Traditional
Practitioners Organisation, Mr SJ Mhlongo; Dr K Komolafe of Nigeria, and Dr
Githae of Kenya.

The conference will culminate in an African Traditional Medicine Day
Celebration to be held on Friday, 31 August 2007 at Curries Fountain Stadium
from 09h00.

It is expected that 5 000 traditional health practitioners from around the
province will attend the conference that is expected to provide a way forward
in the Research and Development of Traditional Medicine.

29th August 2007 at the Ocean Conference Centre from 07h30.
