Gauteng Economic Development Agency to unveil R12 billion
investment deal

14 May 2007

Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Affairs, Paul Mashatile, the Gauteng
Economic Development Agency's (GEDA) Chief Executive Officer, Keith Khoza and
representatives of private investors will unveil another massive investment
project into the Gauteng economy and in particular the Public Transport System
on Wednesday, 16 May 2007.

Currently this project is one of the biggest private sector investments in
Gauteng. Estimated to cost around R12 billion, the integrated Mono rail
corridor project will see the construction of a Hybrid Monorail carrier
transporting over 1,5 million commuters from Soweto to the Johannesburg City
Centre daily. The project will also see the construction of related
infrastructure along the corridor such as shopping malls and residential
areas.

The development, design and manufacturing of both infrastructure and rolling
stock will be done in Gauteng, creating job opportunities for the people of
Gauteng. This project is part of the provincial government's plans of
implementing an integrated transport system and consolidating the province as
an economic and logistic hub for South Africa and the continent.

More details, including the aerial video presentation indicating the routes
and stations of this ground breaking investment, which is 100% financed by a
Malaysian company responsible for the Kuala Lumpur monorail, will be unveiled
at the signing ceremony of this venture between GEDA, the Gauteng Provincial
Government and the investors.
