Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organisation (UNESCO) Memory of the World (MoW) programme
South Africa will host the 8th meeting of the International Advisory
Committee (IAC) of the UNESCO Memory of the World. The Memory of the World is a
programme which seeks to promote the preservation of the world's documentary
heritage against natural and man-made disasters.
Delegates from African countries and the rest of the world will meet in
Pretoria from Monday 11 June 2007, to Friday, 15 June 2007. The main purpose of
the meeting, which takes place every two years, is to review the progress made,
make recommendations to the UNESCO Director-General concerning the award of the
Jikji Memory of the World Prize and consider nominations for inscription of
documentary heritage on the Memory of the World Register. More information is
