North West Office of the Premier on death of Thozamile Kole

Statement by the North West Provincial Government on the tragic
death of Thozamile Kole

12 September 2007

The tragic death of Thozamile Kole, a young journalist working for one of
our community newspapers, Taxi Times, has left many of us saddened and shocked.
It is difficult to accept that people can commit such callous crimes against
fellow human beings. Have we, as human beings, really degenerated to the level
below that of animals?

This crime has robbed the people of our province and Mafikeng of a promising
journalist who was destined to make a difference in the community media sector.
His gruesome murder is, in many ways, a painful setback for the media and on
people's right to access information.

On behalf of the provincial government and the army of government
communicators across the province, I wish to pass my heartfelt condolences to
his family, friends and colleagues at Taxi Times. We wish them strength during
this difficult and painful time.
