The Department of Education in partnership with South African History Online

Young Historians' Award,' from 27 to 29 September 2007, at Durban High
School.

The competition forms part of the departments' contribution to the

The Nkosi Albert Luthuli Young Historians' Award is an ongoing initiative to
encourage all learners to develop an understanding, not only of the broad
history, but also of the richness of the histories of their local communities
and an opportunity for young learners to gain experience in developing
important research skills.

Learners from Grade 8 to 11 and all history educators in secondary schools
from all nine provinces are participating in the competition. Learners are
required to research and prepare a presentation or a documentary film or video,
and educators are required to prepare or develop a work plan on how they
planned and set up the oral history project in the classroom.
