N Pandor to open Mandlakazulu Senior Primary School, 25 Nov

Minister of Education Ms Naledi Pandor to officially open
Mandlakazulu Senior Primary School, Lindelani Township, KwaZulu-Natal

22 November 2007

The Minister of Education Mrs Naledi Pandor will on Sunday, 25 November
2007, at 09h30 officially open Mandlakazulu Senior Primary School in Lindelani,
near KwaMashu Township in Durban.

The school was established by the community in 1989, making use of
unqualified volunteering members of the community as teachers. This was at the
height of political violence which had engulfed the in mid 80's to mid
90's.

The school functioned without proper school buildings and the necessary
resources until 1991.

In 1992, the new school buildings were erected. It now boasts 25 classrooms
and an administration building for the principal, the deputy and the heads of
the departments.

The school, now also serves as the community church and as an Adult Based
Education and Training (ABET) centre as well. More significantly it stands as
the symbol of peace and tolerance that its surrounding communities enjoy.

Media is invited.
