bi-centennial of the abolition of the slave trade in the Bahamas

The Minister of Education, Mrs Naledi Pandor, will on Friday and Saturday,
30 and 31 March 2007, attend the celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of
the abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave trade in the Bahamas.
The Minister's visit to the Bahamas is at the invitation of her counterpart,
honourable Alfred Sears. During the visit Minister Pandor will participate in
the National Day of Dialogue, reflecting on the 200th anniversary of the
abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, the launch of the Learning
Channel, in partnership with Cable Bahamas panel discussion on "The Meaning of
the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the Impact of the African Presence in the
Bahamas" led by Bahamian scholars and a commemorative lecture by Mr George
Lamming, a distinguished Caribbean/Barbadian novelist, poet and social
commentator.
Minister Pandor will also be a guest speaker at the luncheon which will be
attended by education stakeholders, the business community and diplomatic
corps.
