In light of the intense interest over the Bafana Bafana head coach work
permit, the Minister of Home Affairs wishes to issue the following
statement.
On 7 February 2007 the Department of Home Affairs received an application
for a work permit submitted by the South African Football Association (SAFA) on
behalf of the Head Coach, Carlos Alberto Gomes Parreira. Upon inspecting the
document the Department discovered that the application was incomplete.
On 9 February 2007 SAFA was requested by the Department to urgently submit
the outstanding documents.
Today, SAFA submitted all the outstanding documents for the Head Coach, and
he has now been issued with a work permit.
The Department has resolved the matter with the necessary speed in the best
interest on the country's FIFA World Cup 2010 preparations.
