remarks on the occasion to inaugurate the Public Works Stand at the 2007 Rand
Show
4 April 2007
Senior Managers
Representatives of our Public Entities
All officials of the Department
Ladies and gentlemen
The Batho Pele principles of government require us, among others, to
constantly engage with the public as part of information-sharing. As a
Department, we have identified the Rand Easter Show as one of the many mediums
we use to bring Public Works closer to the public. This is because the Rand
Show is one of the prime events in the Exhibition Calendar of South Africa.
This is our third time in a row that we have participated in the exhibition.
Our creative efforts were duly recognised and handsomely rewarded when we were
awarded the gold and platinum awards in 2006. All eyes will be on Lindie
Rasiluma and her team to increase the tally this year.
However, we do not put pressure on them to win anything. The primary purpose
of being here is to inform the public about the functions and programmes of
Public Works and how these impact on the quality of life of South Africans.
The decision to participate in the major exhibitions in the country stems
from the commitment we undertook in January 2000, to open up the Department,
and share its policies and programmes with the public and the stakeholders.
After all when we say South Africa works because of Public Works, we want
the public to be our witnesses.
I thank you all for coming and officially declare Public Works Stand in Hall
5, as open for business and fun. Enjoy your interactions.
