The Eastern Cape Health MEC, Mrs Nomsa Jajula will this month undertake a
four-day crusade taking health services directly to the homes of the people of
Cala.
The Health Imbizo whose theme is "Renewing our pledge - Keeping people
healthy" will kick off with door-to-door awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS and
TB.
The Imbizo will run from 28 May until 31 May. Health workers will also
conduct community mobilisation and awareness campaigns on sexual and
reproductive health. Acceleration of service delivery by young doctors and
door-to-door awareness campaign on polio immunisation will feature strongly
during the Imbizo.
People of Cala will also benefit from promotion of primary health services
in all health facilities. The community will also be informed of the young
women initiatives by the special programmes self-protection unit of the Health
Department.
Some of the health officials will enlighten the Cala community about the
benefits of accelerated pharmaceutical services, environmental management,
infrastructure development, supply chain management, human resource management,
saving of mothers and babies and tobacco control. Several officials have been
tasked to address each and everyone of these health services.
The Home Affairs officials will address the community on the aspects of
registration of births, birth certificates and identity documents while Social
Development department officials will explain social grants and a give synopsis
on Child Protection Week.
As part of acceleration of service delivery the South Africa Police Service
will address the Cala community on the launch of the community police forums
and its benefits.
These services offered by the Health Department Imbizo are based on the
needs assessment of the 68 876 people of the Cala area who are serviced by five
clinics.
Officials and health professionals like doctors, nurses, psychiatrists,
dentists, pharmacists and management of the Health Department will take part in
the Imbizo providing complete 24-hour service for three days in Cala.
The Health Department has invited provincial departments, traditional
leaders, Chris Hani District Municipality, local municipalities, communities,
ANC constituency, Portfolio Committees and members of the legislative assembly
(MPLs).
