N Jajula on Christmas gifts to Mthatha children

Eastern Cape MEC for Health Mrs Nomsa Jajula gives homeless,
disabled and abandoned children Christmas gifts

28 November 2007

Disabled, abandoned and homeless kids from various children homes around
Mthatha spent a day filled with fun, laughter and joy when the provincial MEC
for Health, Mrs Nomsa Jajula, showered them with Christmas gifts during the
Childrens' Day Christmas celebrations at Ikhwezi Lokusa Special School in
Mthatha on 26 November 2007.

More than two hundred children from SOS Children Village for orphaned kids,
Thembelihle for abused and neglected children, Eluxolweni Umthatha Street Child
Care Programme, Siyakhona Children's Home for Street Kids and Bethal Children
Home were transported to the venue to attend the alluring event.

Their innocent and young faces shined with genuine appreciation and
happiness as they joined the queues to receive their individual Christmas gifts
that included suitcases, clothes and toys. In her efforts to make these
children feel special and loved, the MEC made a call to parents to adopt
children.

"It is important to bond with children, not your birth children. I want to
plead with every parent to adopt a child, not a child you know but a deprived
child. Kids must be well taken care of and parents should love these children,"
she said. She also pleaded with the kids to listen to what the parents from the
centres were telling them and not to learn from other kids.

Eluxolweni Social worker, Ms Nozwi Nolangeni, said the kids had been waiting
for the day for a long time and were very excited and valued the Christmas
gifts.

"These kids are very happy and today they have noticed that they are loved
and cared for. This day has taken away all their problems and worries and some
of them are not going to get other Christmas presents and this means a lot to
them," she added.

The day could not have been better without the jumping castles that created
the warm and fun environment for the kids.
