The National Convener of the 16 Days of Activism for No violence Against
Women and Children, Ms Nomatyala Hangana invites members of the media to the
official opening ceremony of the campaign on Sunday, 25 November 2007, in
Bloemfontein. The Free State Premier Ms Beatrice Marshoff is expected to give a
keynote address.
The details are as follows:
Time: 09h00 to 14h30, March will commence at 09h00 to 11h30 and the formal
proceeding at 11h30 to 14h30
Venue: Vista University Sports Grounds, Bloemfontein
On this day, men and boys countrywide are expected to march in protest
against the abuse of women and children. The Million Men's March, as it is
known, hopes to encourage men and boys to actively participate in the fight of
ending the scourge of violence against women and children. The march will also
signify the willingness of men and boys to support the campaign and ultimately
change their behaviour of perpetrators.
The campaign is a partnership between government, non-governmental
organisations (NGOs), Civil Society, faith-based organisations (FBOs),
business, traditional leaders, state-owned enterprises (SoE) and the media.
