London â South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, today
Tuesday, 24 October, arrived in London, United Kingdom (UK) ahead of her
address to the London School of Economics and Political Science scheduled for
Wednesday, 25 October.
Minister Dlamini was in Germany where she led a South African delegation to
the 5th Session of the South Africa-German Bi-national Commission (BNC),
co-chaired with her German counterpart, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter
Steinmeier.
The address to the London School of Economics comes within the context of
the recent unanimous election of South Africa by a vote of 186 out of 192 to
serve in the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
Accordingly, Minister Dlamini was requested by the London School of
Economics (LSE) as part of a series of lectures to commemorate the 60th
anniversary of the establishment of the UN to the LSE community to address
academics, students and members of civil society on the âUnited Nations in the
21st Century: a perspective from a developing country.â
During the visit to London, Minister Dlamini Zuma will also interact with
mainly the African Diplomatic Corps based in London High as well as Caribbean
Diplomatic corps.
Minister Dlamini Zuma to deliver inaugural lecture on Oliver Tambo in
Scotland
While in the UK, Minister Dlamini Zuma will deliver the Oliver Tambo
Inaugural Memorial Lecture at the City Chambers, Nelson Mandela Square
(formerly Georgeâs Square) in Scotland on Thursday, 26 October 2006.
Minister Dlamini Zumaâs memorial lecture comes within the context of efforts
to strengthen and consolidate relations with the people of Scotland who played
a major role in efforts to rid South Africa of the scourge of racism and
apartheid.
The Inaugural Oliver Tambo Memorial lecture in Scotland also coincides with
the official renaming in South Africa of the Johannesburg International Airport
to Oliver Tambo International Airport scheduled for 27 October 2006.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Saturday, 28
October 2006, ahead of the visit to China where she will provide political
support to President Thabo Mbeki during the China-Africa Summit scheduled for 3
- 5 November 2006 in Beijing.
