Mpumalanga Department of Health will officially welcome more than 400
interns and community service health professionals in a function to be held as
follows:
Date: Friday, 6 February 2009
Venue: Ngwenyama conference centre, White River
Time: 10h00
These professionals will be deployed across the province, focusing
specifically on areas of more need.
âTheir presence will undoubtedly assist and we are determined to do
everything possible to retain them after serving their compulsory internship
and community service. We are working more specifically on improving our entry
salary level, which has be the biggest detriment in retaining many of these
professionals including those that may have preferred to work in our province,â
Said MEC Fish Mahlalela.
In total the province has received 455 health professionals broken as
follows:
Internship doctors: 60
Community service doctors: 181
Internship pharmacists: 40
Community pharmacists: 68
Dentists: 45
Environmental health: 39
Nurses: 12
These professionals will be deployed in the three districts of the province
as follows across all categories:
Ehlanzeni: 216
Gert Sibande: 101
Nkangala: 128
These professionals arrive at the time when the province is experiencing
increasing number of people affected by outbreak of cholera, and their presence
although they are still learning, will help beef up our human resource.
