conference held to communicate outcomes of the baseline study on state of
transformation in the tourism industry

The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism through the Tourism BEE
Charter Council will host the first ever Tourism BEE Consultative conference at
the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng on the 17 April 2007. Under the theme
"Strategic options to ensure that the tourism charter gives tourism businesses
a competitive edge," the conference will seek to achieve the following:
* communicate and consult on the draft outcomes of the baseline study on the
state of tourism transformation in South Africa
* communicate and consult on the draft recommendations for aligning the Tourism
BEE Charter with the codes of good practice
* launch the first annual report for the Tourism BEE Charter Council
* communicate and consult on the proposed recognition and incentive framework
to encourage the industry to comply with the charter
* communicate support tools in place to support charter implementation
* provide onsite advice on BEE implementation in tourism.
The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Marthinus van Schalkwyk
will officially open conference.
