A rally to commemorate the contribution of the Hammarsdale
Victims of Political Violence, ahead of 2009 elections, Mpumalanga Stadium,
Unit 2, Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal

16 January 2009

Minister in The Presidency, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, Minister of
Intelligence Mr Dr Siyabonga Cwele and KwaZulu-Natal MEC Meshack Radebe will
attend a rally to commemorate the contribution of Hammarsdale victims of
political violence towards the advancement of South Africa's struggle for
democracy.

Hammarsdale went through a very harrowing time in the periods of the late
1980 and the early 1990s as a result of a clash between UDF and IFP and later
ANC and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), which saw hundreds of people dying, houses
being destroyed and people being displayed.

The theme of the event is: "A Day when Mpumalanga says Thank you" to its
heroes and heroines.
