M Tshabalala-Msimang to announce processes to form National Youth
Development Agency, 20 Jan

Media invited to a press conference to announce processes to
form National Youth Development Agency

20 January 2009

Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 20 January 2009
Venue: Minister in the Presidency Boardroom No 114, West wing, Second floor,
Union Buildings
Time: 13h00 to 14h00

The Minister in the Presidency will today announce the processes in place to
kick-start the merger of the National Youth Commission (NYC) and Umsobomvu
Youth Fund (UYF), into a more integrated National Youth Development Agency
(NYDA).

The National Youth Development Agency Act, to provide for the establishment
of a much tighter NYDA, has been signed into law - Act no 54/6/8/ of 2008.

The Act provides for the establishment of the NYDA as a public entity
through the merger of the NYC and the UYF. The merger will result in the
dissolution of Umsobomvu Youth Fund, a section 21 company in terms of the
Companies Act and the migration of its assets, and that of the National Youth
Commission into the Agency.

No disruptions in the operations of the NYC and UYF are expected since the
two will continue to operate until the date of the integration.
