The Minister of Health, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, and Gauteng Health MEC
Brian Hlongwa will visit Weskoppies Hospital in Pretoria as part of the
activities to observe Mental Illness Awareness Month (July).
The visit is aimed at inspecting improvements that are being made at the
hospital including the construction of two extra units to expand the current
capacity of the hospital. Renovations to two wards, which were burnt down by
fire caused by patients last year, are also underway.
Members of Mental Health Review Boards from all provinces are also expected
to participate in the visit. These Mental Health Review Board members are
convening at Kopanong Conference Centre in Benoni, Gauteng to discuss measures
to improve mental health services in the country.
